TRFC Secondary School Esports League

The TRFC Secondary School Esports League, delivered by Merseyside Esports Limited, is the first programme of its kind in the United Kingdom, providing structured competitive gaming opportunities for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students across the Wirral. The league features two titles, FC26 and Rocket League, forming the foundation of an engaging, skill-based competition designed for young esports talent.

Students from participating schools compete individually while representing their school colours. Competitors are placed evenly into groups and take part in a five-week group stage, during which they face every opponent within their group. Following the group fixtures, the highest-ranked players progress to the Live Finals Upper Bracket, while those in lower positions enter the Lower Bracket, ensuring every participant has an opportunity to compete in front of a live audience at the Tranmere Rovers Recreation Centre next to Prenton Park.

The league currently includes six Wirral secondary schools:

  • Calday Grange Grammar School

  • Hilbre High School

  • Ridgeway High School

  • South Wirral High School

  • Mosslands High School

  • St John Plessington Catholic College

Each school puts forward three competitors for Rocket League and three for FC26, creating a cohort of six individual representatives. Although they compete under the same school banner, players participate as individuals rather than teams. As a result, schoolmates may meet in the knockout stages during the Live Finals, where only one competitor can ultimately claim victory.

The TRFC Secondary School Esports League offers students a structured, professionally managed environment in which to develop their competitive skills, sportsmanship, and confidence—both online and in front of a live crowd.
